Does your laptop have a wireless adapter? to check go to my computer right click go to properties click on hardware tab the devise manager click the plus sign next to networking to see if one is listed as a built in or if you have a slot for one on the side of the laptop then you will need to purchase one.

Linksys Wireless-N Home Router WRT150N

http://www.linksysbycisco.com/

The Wireless-N Home Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

Does your internet come through your phone line or a dedicated optical cable?
Which laptop do you have?

You need to buy a wireless router that you attach to your modem, recommend Linksys Wireless-G [about £47]

you need to buy a wireless router for CABLE connections. You will connect this to your ntl broadband and your laptop should be able to connect to the internet wirelessly.

There are a range of wireless routers available from PC World. Click on the link to check them out.
