Default Why won't my laptop accept broadband ethernet cable?

I got a laptop thru my mobile company and although it works well with wireless and mobile broadband, I can't seem to get it to work when I plug my wired internet cable in. I thought maybe it has been set like that by the company so I have to use their mobile broadband...?

Make sure that the network port is properly configured with the proper drivers loaded and enabled. It may just be disabled. (see device manager)

Secondly make sure it is set to obtain IP address and DNS automatically.

The problem is somewhere in the above.
